About William ("Billy") M. Quin II:
William ("Billy") M. Quin II, born in McComb, Mississippi and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, attended the University of Mississippi. Billy earned varsity football letters at Ole Miss, and was named numerous times to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. Billy graduated from Ole Miss in 1994 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
Billy earned his Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University in 1997. While in law school, Billy won the Flory Trial Competition and received regional awards for his oral argument in the Jessup International Law Appellate Competition.
Following his graduation from law school, Billy served as a judicial law clerk for Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Michael P. Mills. He co-authored, with Justice Mills, "The Right to a ‘Minimally Adequate Education’ as Guaranteed by the Mississippi Constitution," 61 Alb. L. Rev. 1521 (1998), during this time.
Billy joined the New Orleans, Louisiana law firm, Lemle & Kelleher LLP, in the summer of 1998, where his practice was primarily focused in the fields of admiralty and maritime law. In April 2001, Billy returned to Mississippi and joined The Allred Law Firm, where his practice expanded to include insurance bad faith litigation, complex commercial disputes and medical malpractice.
Billy joined Lundy & Davis LLP in November 2002 and continues to maintain an active litigation practice in Mississippi and Louisiana. Billy has spent significant efforts on behalf of WorldCom stockholders and the State of Mississippi for liabilities resulting from the largest corporate fraud and bankruptcy in United States history. In November 2003, Billy’s efforts on behalf of hundreds of WorldCom stockholders were highlighted on the PBS television news program, NOW with Bill Moyers. In April 2005, he and co-counsel negotiated an historic $132 million settlement with MCI Inc. for state tax liabilities owed the State of Mississippi as a result of a fraudulent tax evasion scheme employed by WorldCom.
At the age of 33, Billy attained an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell, signifying "very high" ethical standards and "very high to preeminent" legal ability. He frequently serves as a guest lecturer on pre-trial and trial procedures and strategies at continuing legal education seminars. A sampling of Billy’s presentations includes “Daubert and Fed. R. Evid. 104(a): How Far Should the Judge go in Assessing the Credibility of a Proffered Expert?”, Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association (Feb. 2005); “Getting your Evidence and Expert Testimony Admitted into Court in Mississippi”, National Business Institute (March 2005); “Advanced Civil Discovery for the Litigation Paralegal in Mississippi”, Institute for Paralegal Education (2004); and, "Advanced Legal Drafting for Mississippi Paralegals", Institute for Paralegal Education (2003).
Representative decisions in which Billy has served as lead counsel include Matamoros v. Tort Claims Trust, 1999 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 413 (E.D. La. 1999); Fontenot v. Southwestern Offshore Corp., 787 So.2d 588 (La.App. 3rd Cir. 2001); and, Bentley v. Mutual Benefits Corp., 237 F.Supp.2d 699 (S.D. Miss.2002).
Billy is a lifetime member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association, Loyalty Foundation and M-Club, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He is married to the former Christy Risher of Brandon, Mississippi, with whom he has a daughter, Olivia.
