interest under Civil Code section 3291. We disagree.
Civil Code section 3291 applies only where a CCP 998 offer is reasonable and in good faith and, contrary to Gass's assertion, Morin v. ABA Recovery Service, Inc. (1987) 195 Cal.App.3d 200, 206, does not reach a contrary conclusion. Like CCP 998, Civil Code section 3291 is intended to encourage settlement and penalize defendants for rejecting reasonable offers. (Ibid.; Steinfeld v. Foote-Goldman Proctologic Medical Group, Inc. (1997) 60 Cal.App.4th 13, 21.)
The judgment is affirmed. Costs on appeal are awarded to appellants Gass.
